Just as with other community sports programs, the success of High Point is directly tied to parental involvement. HP Pony is an all-volunteer program where our kids can learn, play and compete with other youths with similar interests and is dependent on all parents participating and making a contribution toward the accomplishment of the League's goals. Parent participation is necessary and essential to the success of the program. All parents must volunteer some time during the season. Parent participation may take many forms. There are many volunteer opportunities available such as coaching, scorekeeping, umpiring, acting as the team parent, or helping with field preparation, maintenance and clean-up. There are additional opportunities to volunteer by helping with one of our annual activities such as the Opening Day Ceremonies, Family Day, End of Season Tournaments, All-Stars, or you can sponsor a team by making a monetary contribution. When your team's coach or team parent approaches you to volunteer some of your time to the success of your team and the League, please do so enthusiastically - and keep in mind that without our parent volunteers the League could not exist. All local Leagues are required to conduct background checks on managers, coaches, board of directors members and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players or teams. Individuals are also required to complete and submit a Volunteer Application to their local league. Select from the links to the left to learn more about this vital aspect of Little League’s mission. Manage or Coach a Team This year we will need over 120 Coaches to conduct the HP Pony program. Coaches are the heart of the Pony program. If you have the energy, patience and time to coach a team, we would like to hear from you. Please call or email the League Commissioners for the Division you are interested in. It is preferable that coaches have some experience, but that is a luxury we are often denied. You do not have to have played the game of baseball itself, or even be a "student of the game" to become an effective manager. If you work at both teaching and learning, and you can relate well to children and youths, you can do the job and we look forward to hearing from you. There will be mandatory Coaches Clinics on TBD prior to the beginning of spring season. The clinic is designed to help coaches teach the fundamentals of baseball and will help them set up and run practices and games. The Clinic is designed for coaches from all Divisions. Coaches, just like all volunteers that spend time with our players, are required to complete and submit a Volunteer Application. |
